Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need experience to attend the clinics?

A: Not at all! These clinics are designed for all skill levels, from brand-new beginners to experienced players. Whether you have played for years or never held a stick, our coaching staff will have drills specifically for you.

Q: What equipment do I need to bring?

A: For the clinics in January, no equipment is required. If you have your own stick, please bring it! If not, we will have sticks available for you to use. Please wear gym shoes (no cleats) as we will be indoors on the gym floor.

Q: Is there a cost to attend?

A: No, the clinics are 100% FREE. However, registration is required so we can plan for numbers and safety.

Q: Can I attend all three clinic dates?

A: Yes! You are welcome to sign up for one, two, or all three sessions (Jan 13, 20, and 27). Please note that you must register for each specific date you plan to attend to ensure you are on the roster.

Q: Who gets a free t-shirt?

A: The first 25 players to register for each specific clinic session will receive a free Rocky Lacrosse t-shirt at check-in.

Spring Season: Rocky Select (Middle School)

Q: What is "Rocky Select"?

A: Rocky Select is the competitive Middle School lacrosse program for players in the Rocky Mountain High School attendance area. Our goal is to develop character, teamwork, and championship-level skills to prepare athletes for the High School program.

Q: When does the Spring Season start?

A: Skills Practices: Begin Tuesday/Thursday on February 3rd (Indoor at Heritage Middle School Small Gym).

Regular Practice: Begins the week of February 16th.

Games: Begin March 7th.

Q: How do I register for the Spring Season?

A: Registration is open now at www.rockylacrosse.com.

Pro Tip: Use code ROCKYSELECTEARLYBIRD before December 30th to save $50 on your registration fees!

Q: What equipment will I need for the full season?

A: While the clinic requires no gear, the Spring Season is full contact. Players will need the below equipment but the program will have used equipment to help with new players:

  • Helmet (White preferred)
  • Shoulder pads (must be NOCSAE ND200 compliant)
  • Elbow pads
  • Gloves
  • Stick
  • Mouthguard
  • Protective Cup
  • Cleats

Q: What grades are eligible for Rocky Select?

A: The Rocky Select program is open to boys currently enrolled in 6th, 7th, or 8th Grade for the 2025-2026 school year.

Note: 5th Graders and below should register for the Youth (TVYLL) program. 9th Graders must play High School (SWILA).

Q: Do I have to attend a specific school to play?

A: Yes. Because Rocky Select is the official "feeder" program for Rocky Mountain High School, players must typically:

  1. Live within the Rocky Mountain High School attendance boundaries, OR
  2. Attend one of the designated feeder Middle Schools (e.g., Heritage Middle School, Star Middle School, or specific zones of Sawtooth/Meridian Middle).

Q: My son is in 8th grade but plays another sport. Can he still join?

A: Absolutely. We encourage multi-sport athletes! Middle School is the perfect time to pick up lacrosse before High School. We accept new and experienced players in all eligible grades (6-8).

Q: Can 9th graders play if they are new to the sport?

A: No. Per league rules, 9th graders are ineligible for middle school lacrosse. They must register for the High School program (Rocky Mountain Boys Lacrosse) and will typically start on the Junior Varsity team.

Q: I live outside the Rocky Mountain boundary but like your program. Can I sign up?

A: IMSLA (Idaho Middle School Lacrosse Association) has strict boundary rules to ensure competitive fairness. Generally, you must play for the program zoned for your home address. If your local middle school does not have a team, please contact us to discuss waiver/boundary options before registering.

Q: Is a US Lacrosse Membership required?

A: Yes. All players must have a valid USA Lacrosse Membership active through the end of the season for insurance and eligibility purposes. You will be asked for your membership number during registration.
